Tornados win televised game behind Williams? career high

BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard rolled to a 78-70 victory over Anderson Wednesday night at Boshamer Gymnasium behind a career-high 25 points for Stevie Williams, giving the Tornados their third-ever win in a televised game.

Williams surpassed his previous career high by three points, a mark he set a week and a half ago against then-No. 13 Queens. The sophomore guard missed just once in eight attempts from the field and knocked down 11 of his 15 free throw attempts despite coming into the contest shooting below 50 percent at the line.

Williams' career day catalyzed a well-balanced Tornados' (5-20, 4-15 SAC) offense. Five players scored in double figures for the first time this season. D.J. Bostick equaled his career high with 11 points, including a personal best three triples. As a team, the Tornados knocked down half of their 50 attempts, marking the seventh time in the last 10 contests that the Tornados have shot 50 percent or better from the field.

Alex Moe contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, falling one board shy of his third double-double this season. He surpassed 700 career points and 400 career rebounds in the contest, becoming the fourth player since Brevard joined the NCAA ranks to top both milestones.

The Trojans (6-19, 4-15 SAC) led for only 1:33 and never saw their advantage swell beyond two points. Brevard trailed 18-17 when Alex Moe's dunk became the evening's final lead change, sparking an 11-0 run spanning 3:30 that put the game squarely in Brevard's control.

Anderson would fight back early in the second half, however. A three-point field goal by Moe ballooned the lead to 10 points at the 17:58 mark of the half, but a 12-2 Trojans' run over the next three minutes resulted in the game's only tie.

Williams then took matters into his own hands. A three-point play caused the Tornados to regain the lead, then another two possessions later doubled the advantage. Demarcus Threatt and Bostick added triples on two of Brevard's next three trips down the floor before a Threatt three-point play gave Brevard its largest lead of the game at 11 points.

Anderson would get no closer than four points the rest of the way. When the Trojans clawed back into contention, the Tornados again turned to Williams to get the offense back on track, with Moe and Threatt also providing crucial buckets down the stretch.

Brevard picked up its first-ever win over Anderson at Boshamer Gymnasium and has now won two of three in the series. The Tornados have also won two of their last three games overall and remain in contention for one of eight bids to the South Atlantic Conference Championship.

The Tornados travel to Catawba in a critical matchup with the league's seventh-place team. Saturday's tipoff from Salisbury is set for 4:00 p.m.
