Tigerville, S.C. - Brevard College men's soccer team started the 2015 season on Thursday, September 3, with a 2-1 overtime loss to North Greenville on the road.

The Tornados were able to force overtime in the 86th minute after a corner kick from Gabriel Garcia set up Henrique Joaquim for the equalizer.

Brevard started the game physically, taking a shot in the fifth minute and recording three fouls before the 10th. Following a corner from Garcia, the Crusaders got their first attempt at a shot with a header that went ride. Early in the 24th minute North Greenville scored the first goal of the match. Brevard got one more shot off in the opening half, as Garcia took a shot wide following the goal.

In the second half, Brevard had multiple opportunities to knot up the score before the late goal. Andrew Gallawitch and Chris Efenecy both took shots within eight minutes of each other to put pressure on the opposing goalkeeper. Kevin Hounshell took the first shot on goal for Brevard in the 62nd minute, but it was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 76th minute Alex Gerondidakis almost found the back of the net, but his header was stopped by a diving keeper. Ryan McPhillips took the penultimate shot, which was also caught by the goalie.

Alec Goettle took the only shot for Brevard in overtime, coming in the final minute of the first half of extra play. Following the attempt, North Greenville countered and scored the game winner with five seconds left.

A well balanced Brevard strike saw nine people take shots with no player having multiple.

Brevard returns to the pitch on Sunday, September 6, when they play UNC Pembroke in Rock Hill, S.C. at 6 p.m. Live stats can be found at bctornados.com
