Gents offense held in check by Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas - The Gents were able to muster only two shots, but sophomore Ivann Amaya recorded his second goal of the season as Centenary College (1-1) lost to Concordia (2-0) 3-1 in men's soccer action Friday afternoon, September 4.

Down 1-0 in the 38th minute, the Gents were fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Amaya found the back of the net to tie the game. Amaya scored to first goal for the Maroon and White in both games this season, and assisted the game-winner in Tuesday against East Texas Baptist.

Just a little more than a minute later, Concordia's Matthew Butler scored the game winner when he went right post off a pass into the box from Isaiah Comb. The Tornados sealed the win in the game's final moments, when Carl Linn hit the ball off his heel right in front of the goal off a pass from Alejandro Labastida.

Concordia outshot Centenary 22-16, including 16-2 in shots on goal. Junior Rylan Whan (1-1) grabbed 13-of-16 shots faced for the Gents, while his counterpart, Nick Martin (2-0) managed one save.

Centenary men's soccer returns to action Tuesday, September 8, under the lights at Mayo Field against LeTourneau. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
