BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard College's men's soccer team hosted Lander on Saturday, Sept. 12, falling to the visitors 2-0. With the loss BC drops to 0-4 on the season.

The Tornados started off the contest on the offensive, taking three shots in the opening five minutes. Winston Haddock got the ball in the attacking third out of the gate, taking a shot from the left wing in the first minute of play that was stopped by Barrett Neilsen. Less than two minutes later, the junior from Mooresville, N.C., got another shot after a cross set him up for a header that went wide right. Alec Goettl concluded the opening attack with a shot in the box that was deflected by a Bearcat (3-0) defender.

In the 29th minute, Gabriel Garcia took his second shot of the afternoon sending the ball above the goal. Lander countered with a shot of its own in the same minute getting past Heath Turner to break the scoreless match. Brevard got one more shot off before the intermission with Shawn Shoenfeld's attempt going left of the goal. Sandy got a chance for his second goal in the 40th minute, but Turner was able to protect the goal and keep it a one goal affair heading to the break.

Lander opened up the second stanza with a pair of shots, with the second one finding the back of the net after a foul on Brevard set up a free kick for Hugo Delhommelle who crossed the barr to Ianis Ghachem. Andrew Gallowitch got the only quality attempt for the Tornados in the second half, as his shot from inside the box was saved by Nielsen in the 65th minute.

Garcia led both sides with four total shots, while his one on goal was matched by Gallowitch and Haddock on the home side. Turner logged all 90 minutes in goal, stopping four shots.

South Atlantic Conference league play begins for BC on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when Lincoln Memorial comes to Brevard for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
