Busy Day Ahead for Ladies and Gents on Tuesday

Just like last week, the Centenary College men's and women's soccer team, as well as the volleyball team, are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

However, while the soccer teams play host to LeTourneau at 6 and 8 p.m., the volleyball takes on Texas-Tyler in Tyler at 7 p.m.

Passport Points

All students are reminded that each home athletic event you attend, you can scan a QR code in order to receive 25 passport points. The sheets to scan the code are located at the concession stand. For Tuesday night's soccer games, they will be located at Virginia's Place, located directly behind the bleachers.

On men's soccer

There will be live stats available for tonight's contest with LeTourneau.

The Gents look to rebound from a 3-1 loss at Concordia (Texas) last Friday.

Through two games, junior Rylan Whan has 22 saves for the season. With an average of 11 saves per game, and with 19 games remaining, he is on pace to end the season with 209 stops. That would break the single-season record of 119 saves, set by Robbie Ramirez in 2012.

Just a hat trick

There will be live stats for tonight's game between LeTourneau and the Ladies.

Last Tuesday, Marissa Hughes of the women's soccer team netted three goals (and assisted on the fourth) as the Ladies knocked off East Texas Baptist 4-2. That was the first three-goal game by a Centenary College women's soccer player in three years, and the first hat trick from any Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference player other than nationally-ranked Trinity in two seasons.

For her work against the Tigers, Hughes earned the first Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week from the SCAC on Monday, September 7.

What a freshman debut

The volleyball team returns to action Tuesday night at Texas-Tyler at 7 p.m. There will be live video and stats courtesy of UT-Tyler.

Freshman Hailey Lawson played in 4-of-5 matches for Centenary this week. She is fifth in the SCAC in total kills (47), eighth in kills per set (2.76), and is ninth in digs per set (3.18). Lawson is third in digs per set among outside hitters in the conference.

After narrowly missing double-digit kills in her first two matches of the season, Lawson broke through with 10 kills against Macalester and 20 kills against Sul Ross State. Combined with double-digit digs in her first four matches, Lawson tallied a double-double in each of her last two matches.

Next Up

The Centenary soccer teams open up conference play Friday, September 11, against Austin College. Kickoff of the women's game is set for 5 p.m. The volleyball team will play four matches in two days in the Millsaps tournament Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12.
