SHREVEPORT, La. - Junior James Sapp finished with a cool 25 points and 10 rebounds, his second double-double in as many games and the third of the season. However, it was sophomore guard Travion Kirkendoll who led the team at half with seven boards and finished the game with his first double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) of his collegiate career.

Oh, and it was also the 350th win in Gold Dome history for the Maroon and White.

The Gents never trailed in the game and shot 50 percent (36-72) from the field as Centenary (6-2) knocked off Belhaven (1-4) 96-75 Wednesday night, December 9, in Shreveport.

Besides Sapp and Kirkendoll, Shreveport native and freshman Dominique Kennedy shined in his first collegiate game in front of his home crowd, coming off the bench for 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Classmate Treylan Matthews added 10 points, six assists, four rebounds, and his first collegiate block.

Sapp added five assists and only one turnover. He made nine of 13 shots from the field (69.2 percent) and even drained both triples attempted.

Unlike in recent games, it was not a big run, but a couple of stops which opened up the lead for the Gents. After the Blazers were whistled for a double-dribble early, Matthews hit a triple off an offensive rebound and senior Donovan Williams scored on a pass from Sapp. Centenary held a slim 24-21 lead before a 11-2 run pushed the lead to double-digits for the first time for the home team. Campbell hit a jumper and then both Campbell and Sapp split from the line. Josh Gaskin answered for Belhaven with its only fastbreak points of the game, but Sapp hit a layup, Kirkendoll added the jumper and Campbell hit a triple to push the lead to 35-23 with 5:28 left in the half.

Taking a 15-point lead in to the second half, Centenary split from the line before Belhaven scored eight straight to cut the lead to less than 10. However, the Maroon and White went on a 14-2 run to push the lead to 20 with 14:45 left. Junior Kendall Demouchet hit his only three-pointer of the game and Kirkendoll pulled down a rebound and found Sapp for the fastbreak hoop. Sapp then completed a hard three to push the advantage to 16. Josh Carpenter hit a layup for Belhaven, but Kirkendoll answered with a layups and Sapp and Kirkendoll hit fastbreak jumpers to push the lead to 20, 63-43, with just more than 12 minutes left.

Centenary's advantage slipped to 15, but a Kirkendoll jumper and a Campbell three pushed the advantage back to 20. The Maroon and White's advantage never slipped below 18 the rest of the game and went as high as 24.

Gaskin and LaDarrius Drain both scored 18 to lead Belhaven, who shot 49.2 percent (29-59) from the field. However, the Gents were able to get out and run, outscoring the Blazers 19-2. Down 16 in the opening minutes of the second half, Gaskin hit a layup and a pair from the line. De'la Mayers then hit a layup and added a pair more from the line. Mayers finished the game with 14 points.

Centenary takes more than a week off before returning to action in its final games before Christmas. The Gents welcome both Howard Payne and a rematch with UT-Dallas in the Gold Dome December 19-20.
