Trio named to SCAC Fall Sportsmanship Teams

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Three Centenary athletes were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams.

Representing the Ladies on the women's soccer team is senior forward Madison Alexander (Keller, Texas). Alexander scored her lone goal of the season on her only shot against LeTourneau on September 8, a Centenary 5-4 loss. She also assisted on the last goal of the game against East Texas Baptist to cap a thrilling 4-2 win for the Ladies on September 1.

Finally, she assisted on the only goal for Centenary in a 3-1 loss to Austin College September 11.

"Madison exemplifies sportsmanship, and she's been an invaluable leader for Ladies' soccer," said head coach David Orr. "Madison leads by action, and she has an immense amount of respect from her teammates, opponents, and officials. She sets a perfect example!"

Representing the Ladies volleyball team is sophomore setter Allison Lazewski (Dallas, Texas). She led the team with 4.37 assists per set, reaching double digits in assists in 9-of-10 matches to begin the season. She had a season-best 33 assists September 5 against Sul Ross State.

"Allison has a funny and care-free personality," explained head coach Caley Carter. "She's always the person the team goes to for a laugh, but at the same time, she is very competitive. Allison is a great teammate and will do anything to make your day brighter. This is a very well deserved award for her."

Finally, junior goalie Rylan Whan (McKinney, Texas) represents the Gents on the SCAC Men's Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team. Whan easily led the conference in both saves per game (7.67) and total saves (115), finishing 19th and 23rd in the country, respectively. His 115 saves this season tied Donnie Henderson (2015) for the second-most stops in a single season in Centenary history.

Whan's 292 career saves ranks second all time for the Maroon and White, just 80 behind Scott Wright (1988-1991).

"Rylan has been such a solid person both on and off the pitch," said head coach Emmett Rutkowski. "It has been such a pleasure to coach him the past two seasons, and I look forward to watching him set season and career records next season."
