Senior day magic strikes as Centenary sinks Schreiner in overtime, 1-0

SHREVEPORT, La. - Senior captain Michael Pullano's only other career goal was a game-winner earlier this season. Thanks to some overtime, senior day magic, make it two.

Classmate Zachary Kidder found Pullano on a set piece in the 93rd minute as Centenary (3-12, 2-9 Sothern Collegiate Athletic Conference) knocked off Schreiner (6-9, 4-7 SCAC) 1-0 in overtime Sunday afternoon, October 18.

"It was great to celebrate senior day with two seniors being apart of the game winner," said head coach Emmett Rutkowski. "I've been telling the guys we need to defend better and today was our first shutout. Good results happen when you learn to defend well. And of course, a keeper who can come up with big saves."

In the opening minutes of overtime, the Gents kept the pressure on Schreiner. In the 93rd minute, Kidder crossed the field to create a scramble far post. Pullano brought the ball down and nudged the ball in left post as Centenary scored the golden goal.

Junior goalie Rylan Whan (3-10) recorded his first shutout of the season and the fifth for his career. Whan recorded his 100th save of the season in the 23rd minute, finishing the game with seven saves. He has 106 saves for the season, just four shy of his 2014 season.

Whan sits just 14 saves shy of the single-season record for the Gents.

Pullano led the team with three shots, two of which were on target. Freshman Chase Clark added a pair shots on target in the game.

Blake Lowson (4-8) tallied five saves for Schreiner in the loss.

The Gents return to action Friday night, October 23rd, to take on Dallas. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
