Basketball Readies for Busy Weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary Ladies (1-1) and Gents (0-2) basketball teams face a busy weekend when they take on both the Hendrix Warriors and Millsaps Majors at the Gold Dome Saturday and Sunday, November 21-22, for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)/Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Classic.

The other representative from the SCAC, who the Maroon and White will not play, is the Austin College 'Roos.

Centenary will battle Millsaps on Saturday, with the Ladies battling the Majors (2-0) at 3 p.m. and the Gents take on Millsaps (0-2) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Maroon and White take on Hendrix on Sunday at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.

Homecoming, of Sorts

Head Ladies coach Justin LeBlanc will be facing his alma mater when the Majors visit the Gold Dome on Saturday. LeBlanc graduated from Millsaps in 2006.

LeBlanc was a four-year letter winner for the Majors from 2002-06, where he led his team to four SCAC Tournament appearances (Millsaps was an SCAC member until 2012).

After graduation, LeBlanc served as an assistant coach at Millsaps College in for four seasons. During his stint at his alma mater, the Majors produced an overall record of 67-43 as well as captured a SCAC title in 2007-08, advancing to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III National Tournament. During his four years, he coached and assisted in the development of eight all-conference selections, two NABC All-South Region selections, a SCAC Tournament MVP, and an All-American Selection.

Getting some Press

Last Friday, the Ladies ended a 50-game losing streak and gave head coach Justin LeBlanc a win in his first game as a head coach. Centenary defeated Dallas Christian 84-60.

This week, the Ladies headlined the South Regional Recap on D3Hoops.com.

Hanging Tough

Thanks to an exhibition against NCAA Division I Little Rock, the Gents played their third game in a little more than four days. Centenary hung tough with the Trojans, trailing by only three with two minutes left in the first half.

Near the Top of the Conference

Centenary has a pair of players at or near the top of the conference in both men's and women's basketball. Freshman Jasmine Morris scored 21 points against Dallas Christian in her first collegiate game, capturing the initial SCAC Player of the Week honors.

She followed that up with 25 points against East Texas Baptist Tuesday.

Sophomore Travion Kirkendoll has tallied 20 points in each of his first two games of the season, ranking second in the SCAC. Dating back to last season, he reached double-digit scoring in his last 12 games.

Next Up

The Ladies will take more than a week off as both teams play at McMurry next Sunday, November 29. However, the Gents will play their second game in a row against Hendrix, travelling to Conway, Arkansas, November 24.
