CONWAY, Ark. - Leading by more than one possession the vast majority of the game, the Maroon and White built a 12-point lead in the first half and held on thanks to triples at key moments.

The Gents led for more than 39 minutes of the ballgame, and held the Warriors at arm's length as Centenary (3-2) picked up its first road win of the season, 73-69, against Hendrix (1-3) Tuesday night, November 24, in Conway, Arkansas.

"We are very pleased with getting our first road win of the year," said head coach Adam Walsh. "There are many challenges in playing three games in four days, especially against the same team. We continue to show improvement in our defensive effort by being more active. Hendrix is a very physical and fundamental team that gave us great competition over the last three days. We are fortunate to head home with the win, and we hope that we learned lessons that will help us later in the year."

The pattern was established early with the game tied at two. Less than a minute into the game, senior Justin Cueto hit a triple to put the Gents in the lead for the rest of the ballgame. Hendrix pulled within 9-7, but sophomore Travion Kirkendoll hit a triple off an offensive rebound. Centenary never led by less than three the rest of the first half.

Hendrix hung around and cut the Centenary lead to two with 1:46 left in the game, but Kirkendoll answered again with a triple. The Warriors cut it to two with 10 seconds left, but junior Brandon Campbell added a pair from the line to salt the game away.

Kirkendoll matched a career best by scoring 27 for the second straight game, chipping in six rebounds. Junior James Sapp added 14 points. Senior Donovan Williams came off the bench for seven boards. Centenary forced 16 Hendrix turnovers, outscoring the Warriors 25-19 in points off miscues.

The first half saw the Centenary hold a three-to-eight point lead most of the way until seven unanswered pushed the Gents advantage to seven. Up 28-23 with seven left in the first half, Centenary forced a turnover and Williams found freshman Treylan Matthews for a triple. After a Hendrix offensive foul, junior Brandon Campbell hit a jumper. Campbell came off the bench for 13 points, hitting his first four attempts from the field.

However, the home team would not go away, hitting 7-for-14 from distance to stay in the game. With Centenary up 57-49 with 9:37 left, Hendrix's Travis Garrett hit a pair of triples in a 36-second span to quickly cut the lead to five. While Hendrix only managed a 32.1 shooting percentage (9-for-28) from three, Garrett came off the bench to hit 5-for-9 from distance for 15 points. Jordan Barrett hit all three shots from three, finishing with a team-best 17 points.

However, outside of Barrett and Garrett, the Warriors were held to 1-for-16 (6.3 percent) shooting from beyond the arc.

Centenary returns to action Sunday, November 29, against McMurry. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
