LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A total of 26 Centenary student-athletes captured All-Conference honors for the 2015-2016 academic year. Earning academic honors from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference includes 13 athletes in the sports of men's and woman's basketball and men's and woman's' swimming. In addition, 13 gymnasts received academic recognition from the Midwest Independent Conference.
To receive Academic All-Conference recognition, an athlete had to finish with a 3.25 GPA either during the fall 2015 for gymnastics or spring 2016 for basketball and swimming.
Seven Ladies and Gents that earned All-Conference accolades were also named to the academic lists as well.
Leading the way with 13 honorees is Ladies gymnastics. Seniors Ronni Bear, Casie Hood, Kellie Slater and Stephanie Strickler, juniors Taylor Le Moal and Allison Scates, sophomores Kaitlyn Mussio and Ashley White, and freshmen Mackenzie Packer, Vanessa Peterman, Elizabeth Sander, Natalia Scates and Tavia Smith all maintained a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the fall of 2015.
At the MIC Championships in March, White finished with Second Team All-Conference honors. She became only the fourth gymnast for the fifth time overall to compete in NCAA competition for the Ladies when she competed in the all-around in April - the only Division III athlete to qualify in the all-around. At the USA Gymnastics Championships, her personal best of 39.200 in the all-around earned her First Team All-America honors and was the fourth best total in school history.
White also claimed First Team All-American accolades on both vault and beam.
Five Gents swimmers maintained at least a 3.25 GPA in spring 2016, which includes senior Collin Baker, junior Juan Tapia, sophomores Mason Kay and Anthony McDonald and freshman Stetson Carlile and Harrison Folse.
To earn All-Conference, individuals or relay teams had to touch the wall in the top-3 of their respective events. Tapia and McDonald both won five All-Conference accolades; two as individuals and three as members of a relay team. Tapia finished second in the 400 IM with a school-record time of 4:04.81, taking third in the 200 backstroke (1:55.45). He was also a member of the 400 medley and 400 and 800 free relay teams that finished third.
McDonald swept second place in both the 100 and 200 breastroke with times of 58.48 and 1:55.45, respectively. McDonald also swam in three relays that took third - the 200 and 400 free and 400 medley relays.
Baker, Carlile and Kay all won All-Conference accolades as a member of a relay team. Kay swam on the 200 free relay team while Baker and Carlile swam as part of the 800 free quartet.
Men's basketball included three Academic All-SCAC honorees in juniors Brandon Campbell and Kendall Demouchet with freshman Regis Johnson. Demouchet appeared Third Team All-Conference after finishing second in the conference in both blocks (2.4) and steals (1.7), ranking third on the Gents squad with 12.5 points per game.
Rounding out the Academic All-Conference honorees include junior DeiAnna Hall and freshman Savanah Doty for Ladies basketball and senior Raquel Candal and freshman Rebecca Dunn on the Ladies swimming.
