Brevard can?t pull off upset over No. 8 Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. - Brevard College's men's soccer team played 8th-ranked Wingate all night on Monday, Oct. 12, but failed to score a goal in a 2-0 contest on ESPN3. With the loss, Brevard falls to 3-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Heath Turner stopped 11 shots in the contest, the second time this season he amassed double digit saves in a match. With the 11 saves, the junior eclipsed 200 career saves and pushes his NCAA era record to 207.

Wingate (10-0-2, 7-0 SAC) broke the scoreless contest in the 22nd minute, after eight attempts failed, as Shaun Gasby picked up the blocked cross and chipped the ball past Turner.
Brevard got its two shot attempts in the final 10 minutes of the half, starting with Kevin Hounshell who got a pass that set up a one-on-one opportunity and putting the ball within reach of the Bulldogs goalkeeper. With less than two minutes remaining before halftime, Jesse Omezi put the ball on target but it too was scooped up by Pablo Jara.

The defense held tough in the second half, stopping the first nine shots Wingate took to keep it a one goal game. In the 86th minute, the Bulldogs' Charlie Machell blasted the ball over Turner for a goal.

It's the first SAC match this season that the Tornados have allowed multiple goals.
