Turner tabbed SAC Co-Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After one of the most successful weeks in Brevard College's men's soccer team's history, junior goalkeeper Heath Turner was named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week.

The Kansas City, Missouri product logged 200 minutes in goal during the two games, allowing one shot to get past him for a 0.45 goal allowed against average over the week. He saved 12 attempts versus Mars Hill on Friday, Sept. 25 to keep the royal blue and white tied with the Lions in an eventual 0-0 draw. The 12 saves matched his career-high which was originally set at Mars Hill in the 2013 season.

After a rough start to the season, Turner has emerged as one of the elite goalkeepers in the conference, ranking in the top five of every goalie category since SAC play began. In the four conferences matches that Brevard has played in; Turner ranks third in goals allowed with three, third in goals allowed average with 0.71, tied for fifth in saves with 18 and third in save percentage with a .857 save rate.

The award is Turner's first player of the week accolade, and marks the third straight year that a Tornado has earned SAC Player of the Week recognition.

Brevard went 1-0-1 last week, extending its conference unbeaten streak to a program-best three matches. It is the first time since the Tornados joined the NCAA that the team has gone through a week of competition without suffering a loss. With a 2-1-1 SAC record, BC is fourth in the conference standings and is one win away from setting a program record for most conference points in a season.

Brevard looks to continue its winning ways on Tuesday, Sept. 29 when they travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia to take on Emmanuel in a regional match before returning home on Oct. 3 to take on Catawba on homecoming.
