Menā??s soccer readies for three home games in six days

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men's soccer team (3-12, 2-11 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) face a huge weekend when the Gents battle Dallas (7-7-1, 6-4-1 SCAC) Friday, October 23, and #14 Colorado College (11-2-2, 9-1-1 SCAC) Sunday, October 25, at Mayo Field.

Dallas defeated the Gents earlier in October, scoring a goal in the 86th minute. Centenary had a trio of shots with one on goal. The Crusaders managed 22 shots, but could only put six shots on goal. Colton Allen scored the lone goal for Dallas, while Gents' goalie Rylan Whan grabbed five saves.

The Maroon and White fell to Colorado College, 3-1, on October 4 in Colorado. All goals were scored in the first half, with the Tigers scoring all goals in an 11-minute span. Senior Jake Morrison scored the lone goal for Centenary off a throw-in from classmates Michael Pullano and John Vasquez's touch. Cam Stopforth managed a goal and an assist while Max Grossenbacher tallied a pair of assists for Colorado College.

Shutout Achieved

Junior goalkeeper Rylan Whan has accomplished much this season. With 106 saves, he is only 14 away from setting the Centenary single-season record. Earlier this season, Whan moved into second in the career annals in saves at Centenary. With three games left on the year, Whan has 283 saves, 89 saves behind Scott Wright (1988-91).

After four shutouts last season, Whan had his first shutout of the season elude him. That all changed Sunday, when Centenary picked up a huge win against Schreiner in overtime on Pullano's second goal, and second game-winning goal, of the season.

Conference Tournament Scenarios

Centenary and Austin are both tied for seventh in the conference, six points behind the final spot in the SCAC Tournament. The Gents need two wins to at least tie for sixth place, and probably needs a tie in the third game as Schreiner will most likely own the tie-breaker over the Maroon and White.

Next Up

After the weekend, Centenary hosts Louisiana on Tuesday, October 27, for its final home game of the season. Kickoff at Mayo Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
