Kirkendoll Selected Second Team All-LSWA

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - The honors just keep accumulating for Centenary sophomore guard Travion Kirkendoll.

To go along with his First Team All-Conference accolades with the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and Second Team All-Region by the D3Hoops.com, Kirkendoll garnered Second Team All-State Men's Basketball by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).

With Kirkendoll's honor, a Gent has received either First, Second or Third Team LSWA accolades in each of the past five seasons. Centenary is one of only five institutions in the Pelican State (Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State) that can make that claim.

"We are very proud of all the hard work that Travion has put into his game and his development," said head coach Adam Walsh. "He continued to improve and take steps forward in his progression as a sophomore. It is nice for him to receive recognition at the state level with all of the talent in college basketball in Louisiana this year."

Kirkendoll led the SCAC with 19.6 points and 2.04 steals per game. He also finished fourth in the conference with 7.6 rebounds, finishing 68th and 67th in the country in those categories, respectively.

In conference play, Kirkendoll finished second in rebounding (behind teammate Sapp) with 8.5 boards per game. In the final contest of his sophomore season, he registered a career high eight assists and added 14 points and nine boards to finish just shy of a triple-double.

Kirkendoll started the season with 16-straight games with double-digits points. He scored 11+ points in 25-of-27 contests, including 20+ in 15 contests. He easily led all guards in the SCAC with six double-doubles, including back-to-back games with 17 points and 11 boards against Austin College February 5 and Dallas February 7.

He scored a career-best 28 points in a comeback win against UT Dallas December 20.

Kirkendoll and junior teammate James Sapp both made First Team All-Conference. Centenary was the only team in the SCAC to place two on the First Team.

Besides Kirkendoll, Centenary freshman Treylan Matthews garnered a vote for LSWA Freshman of the Year. Only four votes in the entire state went to a freshman not named Ben Simmons, who numerous prognosticators predict to be selected first in the upcoming NBA Draft.

"I think it is also a huge honor for Treylan to receive some recognition among the tremendous freshman class across the state," added Walsh.

Matthews led all SCAC freshmen in points, rebounds, and assists, and received Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades for the Maroon and White.
