Menā??s soccer falls to #8 Trinity, 8-0

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Gents soccer team put an early attack on the nationally-ranked Tigers, but Centenary (2-12, 1-9 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) could not muster any offense in an 8-0 loss to #8 Trinity (12-2, 8-2 SCAC) Friday night, October 16, at Mayo Field.

With the game's opening minutes played between the boxes, it was Centenary who put the first scoring threat together. In the ninth minute, sophomore Ivann Amaya took a ball that squirted to the offensive end, dribbled to the right side, and crossed to the middle to find junior Jeremy Klespis. However, his shot was grabbed by Trinity goalkeeper Chad Margotta (12-2).

Klespis finished the game with a pair of shots on goal, with senior John Vasquez recording the other shot for the Gents.

After another 10 minutes with nearly no scoring threats, it was the visitors who made the most of their shot on goal. After a corner kick was cleared out near midfield, Ryan Hunter from the right side 40 yards out curled a ball in the box. Tom Carwile headed the ball in for his fifth goal of the season in the 19th minute.

Hunter scored just eight minutes later on a shot that just crossed the line before a Gent cleared the ball for the second and final goal for the Tigers in the first half. Trinity scored six goals in the second half for the final 8-0 win.

The Maroon and White were outshot 29-3, including 22-3 in shots on goal. Junior Rylan Whan (2-10) took the loss in goal, allowing grabbing six saves on 11 shots faced. Sophomore Kaleb Behm played the final 32 minutes in goal with seven saves.

In goal for Trinity, Margotta saved both shots faced.

Centenary returns to action Sunday, October 18, for senior day against Schreiner.
